In New Mexico , many years ago, there in a shack in the desert, one night in a storm. Amid streaks of lightnin' and loud desert thunder. To a young Mexican couple, a baby was born; Just as the baby cried, thunder and lightnin' died. The Moon gave it's light to the world and the stars did the same. Mother and Father, both proud of the daughter that heaven had sent them, Feleena was her name.

Happy New Year!!!

It’s been a very busy holiday season with Christmas shoppers dropping in throughout December for delicious Mexican comfort food and to enjoy a little ‘me’ time away from the stores. Many bought Feleena’s Cantina Gift Certificates as stocking stuffers. Those who received them are already coming in to enjoy a night out.

We wish to thank everyone who supported us throughout 2011; coming in to see us through the construction period, and now weathering the cold, blustery season that’s finally upon us. We’re also glad that parents bring their children in to enjoy our authentic Mexican food. We always find time to talk to the children and offer markers and books to keep their hands and minds busy. And it’s a treat for us to see their smiling little faces as we reward each and every child who has finished their meal, with a sweet from our Treat Box.

This year has been a wonderful time, forging new friendships and continuing warmly with old show/hide remainder of description friends.

We wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope that family and friends are close to enough you to bring in 2012 together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Construction Update on Bank Street

(update courtesy of The City of Ottawa)

Twelve construction crews are working on Bank St. The street reconstruction is progressing well after the first month of work with Bank Street and Fifth Avenue being partially rebuilt by the end of this week. That means Fifth Avenue will resume its role as the D2 detour route for southbound traffic next Monday, June 27.

One of the biggest challenges on this project is the quick change of traffic routes due to intersection closures. Here are the current changes: show/hide remainder of description
This week, the Bank Street-Glebe Avenue intersection is closed until June 27 at 9 a.m.
The intersection of First Avenue and Bank Street will close on June 27 and reopen on July 11.
Between June 27 and July 11, Glebe Avenue and First Avenue will be temporarily converted to two-way traffic between Lyon Street and O’Connor Street.
Fifth Avenue is closed until June 27
Two intersections Second Avenue and Bank, and Regent Street and Bank will reopen this week.

A couple of rickshaws are available to take customers from Lansdowne Park to Bank Street businesses on weekends

There’s also FREE PARKING at Lansdowne Park.

Feleena’s Restaurant has one of the best Patio’s in the Glebe. We are open during construction and look forward to serving you!

Big news and an intense Feleena’s update!

So it’s been quite a while since an update has been posted, and I’d say it’s time!

Big things have been happened at Feleena’s. In the last year, we’ve made the following big changes:
New sleek black table stops
Replaced all chairs with colourful, unique hand-painted and customized chairs
Lots of authentic and beautiful new artwork
A completely re-vamped menu, for dinner and lunch
Great new dishes that you’re sure to love
Two new staff members who are added spunk and character to the restaurant
A beautiful new purple exterior
Totally renovated bathrooms
An artistic and captivating inside mural

Other than that, we’re the same great place, with the cozy and eclectic interior and bumpin’ patio you know and love.

Just because it’s been a while, we’ll give you the "who’s who" of Feleena’s one more time:

Clyde Ross – He’s the boss, also known as Mr. Ross (he used to be a high school teacher.) He’s the everything guy. He serves, bartends and generally oversees every function of the restaurant. The owner, the founder, the manager, and the decider of all things. Well, almost all things. That’s where his wife Ann comes in…

Ann McGarry – owner and Clyde’s right-hand woman (and also his wife.) She hosts, sometimes serves, and pays special attention to the kiddies. You can normally find her whipping around the Glebe in her token lime-green smart car. Be sure to ask for her treat box!

Trish – our weekend gal and server extraordinaire. With over 30 years serving  experience, there truly is no better waitress than our beloved Trishy. She’s been with Feleena’s for three years and we hope we never lose her. She does it all!

Tyler – Clyde’s protégé and a friend to all. Go to Tyler to solve all your problems. He’s always sporting a smile and can make literally the grumpiest of patrons happy. Always composed, he is one our most efficient servers. In addition, he knows all the latest scores and will offer his sports opinion or a story from his semi-pro football days at a moment’s notice.

Miles – Ann’s youngest son and the resident little brother. He’s sly, smooth, understanding and definitely charismatic. As a first-year history student at Carleton, he’s a pro at juggling multiple priorities. You can find him slingin’ premium tequila behind the bar, or cracking jokes at a table.

Zack – Another veteran server with an extensive background in food and restaurant management. He’s on top of things Monday to Thursday, armed with a cheery disposition and the daily special. Take a break from work and visit Zack – you’ll definitely be going back!

Sian – Feleena’s seems to require a token Maritime girl at all times, and here she is. Close friends with Julia from their high school days in Halifax, Sian picked up bartending and serving shifts last summer when we needed her the most. She’s now earning her Masters by studying political science at Carleton University. We’re thrilled to have her!

As for myself (Julia), you won’t be seeing me at Feleena’s as often these days. I’ve picked up a job in my field, although it’s hard for me tear myself from the restaurant that has become my Ottawa family over the last three years. I’ll still pick up the odd serving shift, but most likely I’ll be enjoying Feleena’s in a better way – as a customer.

But I’ll still be blogging and assisting in any marketing and media efforts. Like I said: I just can’t tear myself away.

How’s that for an update?!
